The S686 is a sporting variant of the Beretta 686 "Silver Pigeon", a sporting shotgun chambered to various gauges (though it primarily handles 12 gauge). The shotgun is a relatively common hunting gun, used primarily by American clay pigeon shooters. The shotgun is very powerful at close range because it shoots several small sized pellets against the target which causes great damage to tissue, but as the pellets travel further away, the area gets bigger where the shot will hit effectively rendering the shotgun not so lethal at long ranges.
